Travita Godfrey’s educational experience in the public school system spans nearly 27 years. Travita was a science teacher and a professional school counselor in the Houston metropolitan area, before spending several years as a district-level administrator in Goose Creek CISD, and Humble ISD. Travita is currently the principal of Fortis Academy, Harris County Department of Education’s public recovery high school in Houston, Texas. Travita’s years of experience as an educator, school counselor, administrator, and prevention specialist, equip her to lead the school for teens recovering from addiction. Travita has been afforded the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from a diverse group of people, with the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students can learn and deserve an excellent education, in a positive, nurturing learning environment. With a philosophy focused on community service, she is dedicated to building trust within her school community and leading with empathy. She sees her role as a school leader to coach students in their academic growth and personal development by constructing meaningful educational experiences that are compatible with their life goals, using a wraparound support model focused on academic, social, and emotional needs.
