Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)
Our Statement
We at the Association of Recovery Schools acknowledge the direct connection between recovery, education, and social justice. We are committed to being visible and vocal in supporting the diversity of all people through inclusive, antiracist, and equitable practices.
History
In 2021, the Association of Recovery Schools joined the Association of Alternative Peer Groups, Faces & Voices of Recovery, and Young People in Recovery, to acknowledge that racism is deeply rooted in structures, systems, organizations, and communities, and individuals, and to unequivocally condemn all forms of racism and commit to effecting change. We developed the Addressing Anti-Black Racism in Recovery North Star Document (also referred to as the North Star Guide for Recovery Leaders) to hold ourselves accountable, and we continue to work collectively and individually to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy within recovery agencies, programs, policies, systems, and settings.
